Valet parking for Maritime Day

PLYMOUTH - In an effort to help maximize parking spaces on the waterfront during Plymouth's busiest season, Park Plymouth will pilot a valet parking service for the public during the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce's 2011 Plymouth Maritime Day event, July 9.

"We are pleased to help the Chamber make their Maritime Day event a successful and fun-filled day by providing this service to the public," PGDC President Leighton Price said.

"We believe that valet parking can be an important part of the solution to the shortage of waterfront parking during special events by providing premium service to our customers, while better utilizing our off-street parking facilities," Park Plymouth's Director of Operations, John Burke, said.

The public is invited to leave their cars with Prestige Valet Parking and Valet Connection. The valet booth will be at the entrance to Town Wharf, right near The Cranberry House on Water Street, between the hours of noon and 10 p.m. The cost per vehicle is $10. Without a doubt, this is the most important question to ask. Even the smallest accident can create a lawsuit in today's litigious society. It is very difficult for valet parking companies to protect themselves when in most instances, the insurance company sides with the individual making the claim (the claimant). In the case of an accident or claim, the claimant must be responded to immediately. Poor handling of the situation could severely damage your relationship with the customer and your company’s image. General Liability Insurance provides protection for the parking company for their negligence should they injure or damage someone or someone else's property (i.e. Bodily Injury and Property Damage Coverage) This would be to a third party.

Garage-keepers Legal Liability Insurance provides protection for the parking company for their negligence should they damage the customers vehicle in which they have taken into their care, custody and control.

Worker's Compensation Insurance: Workers' Compensation insurance is business insurance that provides medical and disability coverage for employees who sustain job-related injuries. Worker's Compensation insurance policies will cover an employee's medical expenses and reimburse him or her for some percentage of lost wages.

Employers' Liability Insurance protects companies against the costs of defending employment-related claims brought by employees for work-related injuries or illness. The Employers' Liability coverage is usually one portion of a standard Workers' Compensation policy.

We were pleased to attend the 5th anniversary celebration of the Cape Cod Young Professionals, held at the Chatham Bars Inn on November 5th, sponsored by Nauset Disposal and Comcast Business Services.

Nauset Disposal along with Amvets Post 333 will be collecting food home goods for Ma Otis’s food Pantry. Please help us support our veterans as they have put their lives on the line for us and our country. This year our annual food drive, "Curb Hunger", will have collection spots at numerous businesses throughout the Cape, along with residential pick ups to help veterans and their families in need around the holiday season.

If you are interested in donating by residential pick up please place donations next to your trash bins on the day of your scheduled pick up. We ask for your help again to raise awareness and goods for this great cause. The holiday season is the most difficult time for families in need, help us to bring them some much needed holiday cheer.

Amvets post 333 is a post of about 100 veterans who are dedicated and active in helping veterans, armed forces members and their families. They actively follow changes in benefits and inform all of their families and friends of what's happening to veterans. The post often provides personal services, support and funding to those in need.

Ma Otis’s Pantry was started was December 2009 by Jodi Fiske, Michelle Atlak, Maria Wood and lots of help from friends in ALL places including military spouses, active duty members, military retirees and veterans who saw a need in their community and set about helping their neighbors. In this holiday season we need to support this great fully volunteer run organization by getting them the donations they need to keep their mission going.

We will be collecting food from October 4th thru November 18th. Please be as generous as possible by dropping off any non perishable item, laundry detergents, diapers, toilet paper, etc. Every little bit helps! We all need to make every effort to help our returning soldier’s transition back into normal life on Cape Cod.

One quasi competitor even claims, "If you have a valid quote from a valet company or shuttle service I will beat there (oops, their typo) price by 30% or more." Perhaps in the future they will add that they will beat the price of taxi cabs, limos, dry cleaning service, and the florist too!

To be sure you are getting what you pay for, get written proof of insurance. (Many experts recommend calling the insurance company to verify coverage, because some fly-by-night companies have provided forged insurance documents.) We were able to accommodate and re-schedule several weddings to next Saturday, September 11th on Cape Cod. We had a "rush" wedding rehearsal dinner party that was scheduled for 8pm in Orleans, yesterday. With the storm, all was pushed back to 5pm and all went well, with the rain holding off until much later. This weekend keeps us busy valet parking for events in Gloucester, Falmouth, Lynnfield, Plymouth, Bourne and Sandwich.

For those who left Cape Cod fearing the worst from the Hurricane, come back! The weather is great and businesses are ready to serve you. Plymouth and Boston buses are running on schedule. Hy-Line Cruises reports that all is well with their high speed ferries to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. However, their "traditional" service to both islands is canceled for the day.

Cape Cod Travel Guide reports: "Come on down! Governor Patrick made a stop in Chatham this morning to make sure everything was OK and to give everyone the green light to enjoy the rest of the Labor Day weekend."

Last minute bookings and the CCHMA event...

This has been a most productive week in terms of last minute bookings. We booked 3 last minute wedding events for Labor Day weekend. We're very pleased that we've confirmed that we'll be providing valet parking to 10 more events in September. With our expansion into the Vermont and New Hampshire areas, we look forward to enhancing events with our professional valet parking services.

It was great to attend the Cape Cod Hospitality Marketing Association event at the Wequassett Resort where three scholarships to Cape Cod and Islands students were presented. Andy Ross and the great staff at the Wequassett Resort did a fine job and the weather was superb.

After 21 years, Rich B. is "hanging up his sneakers" and retiring from valet parking. Besides being a valued and treasured employee, Rich is a trusted friend. Rich started with us back in 1989 as we opened up the former Weylu's in Saugus, Massachusetts. This restaurant had a seating capacity of 1500, but with a parking capacity of 150. Parking was a challenge, but the dedication and professionalism that Rich brought made my decision to make him the Operations Manager an easy one. Thank you, Rich for 21 great years. We watched your young children grow and, after Saturday, both are married. I'm thankful for all your years of hard work. Best of Luck in the future.
